Repairing your bathtubThe bath is a vital part of many properties and for obvious reasons; there are few things better after a hard days work than retiring to a hot bath. That’s why, when our bath becomes worn or broken, our initial thought is that we will have to purchase a new tub, but this is rarely necessary, and vast amounts of time and money can be saved if you choose to repair, not replace.

When we think about the cost of replacing a bathtub many people only factor in the cost of the bath itself. And while they are correct in thinking that the tub will not be a particularly large expense, there are a number of associated costs that need to be taken into account.

When the bath is replaced, the surrounding tiles will be affected, and in many cases the result will require them to be replaced also. The plumbing will also need to be refitted, and while those with a knack for DIY might be able to complete this without outside help, in most cases a plumber will need to be called.

It is also worth considering the interruption to your daily life such procedures might have. While usually the whole replacement should be completed in less than a day, life doesn’t always go to plan, and your bath could be out of use for a day or more. And if your shower is over the bath, this will be out of use also.

However, bath repairs are simple jobs that if done in the right hands, are very quick and barely undetectable. A lot of people are put off bath repairs because they are worried that the results will be noticeable, yet the opposite is usually true.

In order to save more money, there is the option to carry out the bath repairs without the need for a professional. Most good hardware stores will sell kits specific to this purpose. You do have to bear in mind however, that the results are more likely to be noticeable in this case than if the repair was to be completed by a professional.

Bath repairs can also be of benefit to businesses such as hotels or guesthouses. In today’s economy, many such businesses are finding it increasingly vital that costs are kept to a minimum. Therefore spending funds unnecessarily on replacing items such as bathtubs is going to make a huge difference to overall profits. The alternatives are considerably cheaper. Fixing the bath using a DIY kit is the cheapest option, but in a commercial venture the finished result is likely to be more important than in a home environment, and hiring a professional will ensure standards are maintained despite the use of cost-cutting measures.

It’s also worth noting that all good bath repairs specialists will be able to repair damage to a bath regardless of the material or colour. Unfortunately, baths manufactured using less common materials, or in less popular colours can be more difficult to repair using a DIY kit. However, all experienced professionals will be able to match their materials perfectly to achieve a near invisible result.
