Where do you need a Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión for?

When buying a property in Barcelona and staying for longer than 3 months in Spain, you´ll need to register yourself in the Registro de Ciudadona in Barcelona

After the actual registration you´ll receive a certificate of registration. The Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión replaces the former Tarjeta de Residencia Comunitario which is still valid until its date of expiration.

Since 2007 also inhabitants of Barcelona with a Tarjeta de Residencia Comunitario or a NIE number are required to register themselves in the Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión.

 

Where can you get one in Barcelona?

You can get the Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión at the police station in Carrer Balmes 192 in the Gracia area. You can reach it by metro (L5, metro stop Diagonal).

 

What do you need to bring with you and which steps do you need to take in order to get one?

In order to get a Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión you will need to have a:

  • passport
  • copy of your passport 
  • proof of application for a NIE (click here how to apply for a NIE)
  • copy of your NIE application
When you have the required documents you´ll need to take the following steps:
  1. Go to the police station where you will get an application form (EX16) which you´ll need to fill in.

  2. With the form filled in you go to the nearest bank (right next to the police station) to pay the required fee of 9 Euro

  3. After making the payment the bank employee will put a stamp on the application form.

  4. Go back to the police station and hand over the application form, the proof of payment, your passport, a copy of your passport, proof of application for a NIE, copy of your NIE application.

  5. If everything went OK you will get the certificate instantly.
