Most of the time when buying a property in Barcelona you will need to get a mortgage in order to have your expenses covered.

Mortgages in Spain are offered by banks and “caixas”, which are comparable to building societies. You can obtain a mortgage directly from the bank or caixa, or from a mortgage broker. You can find both fixed rate and variable rate mortgages, with rates differing from bank to bank, and even between branches in the same bank, so it is worth shopping around.

Where do you need a Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión for?

When buying a property in Barcelona and staying for longer than 3 months in Spain, you´ll need to register yourself in the Registro de Ciudadona in Barcelona

After the actual registration you´ll receive a certificate of registration. The Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión replaces the former Tarjeta de Residencia Comunitario which is still valid until its date of expiration.

Since 2007 also inhabitants of Barcelona with a Tarjeta de Residencia Comunitario or a NIE number are required to register themselves in the Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión.
