metroMetro Barcelona (Spanish Metro de Barcelona) - is an underground rapid transport system in the second largest city in Spain. The system consists of 11 lines which make a total of 209 metro stations. Two more lines are under construction. The construction of the metro system began in Barcelona in the twentieth century and the first line was opened in 1924. Every year, the service is used by 460 mln people. The system has 6 different zones, but to see the most important attractions a ticket for one zone would be the most appropriate. The big advantage of the metro is that the ticket is valid for 75 minutes as long as you are inside the metro, so you can change from metro line without paying additional money.

Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines which are located at the entrance of every station. It must be commented that you have to enter your ticket on the right hand side and pass through on the left. On the display of the gates it is shown how many times the ticket can still be used. On the back of the ticket a stamp is placed every time you use the card. In addition, on the backside the amount of stamps can be counted to see for how many rides the ticket is still available. The final ride will be stamped with ´titol´.
